Please reach us at 814-420-4445 via text or call, if you cannot find an answer to your question!
If the puppy is currently advertised on our "Available Puppies" page, you can simply reach out to us with any questions you may have. If you decide you would like to purchase the puppy, we simply require a $200 deposit. This deposit is standard for any dog or puppy we sell, regardless of the total price. This deposit will, of course, be deducted from the total price and your balance will be due on pick-up day.
If no puppies (or dogs) are currently listed, or if none of the ones listed suit you, please contact us to be added to our waiting list. Clients are placed on our waiting list and offered suitable puppies on a first-come, first-serve basis. So, the best way to get the puppy or dog you want from us, is to be placed on our list. We do not charge for this service, and it does not constitute an agreement to purchase from us. It simply puts you ahead of anyone else who makes the request after you.
Yes, we encourage potential buyers to meet the parents of the puppies to get a better idea of their temperament and physical characteristics. For clients who live too far away to visit us, we are happy to send photos and videos of the parents, and even video chat to show them to you live. We are really proud of our beautiful Chihuahuas, and love to show them off! Every member of our breeding program has their own hashtag too, which we use on all our social media platforms. Just ask for the parents' hashtags of the puppy you're inquiring about, and we will be happy to provide them! They will give you access to everything we have ever posted about them!
Our puppies get daily exercise, thanks to kennel setup. Every roomy area in our climate-controlled kennel building has access to a large, grassy areas. We have over an acre fenced for our tiny doggos! They are all kept on a strict regiment of vaccinations and dewormer. In addition to their veteriary needs, they each also get a pro-groom in our onsite Grooming Center on the 1st of every month. All the dogs take turns going "bye byes", sleeping in bed with us, getting couch time when we are relaxing, etc. So. they are all well-behaved, spoiled rotten, extremely happy members of our little pack.
Double A Designer Dogs is happy to accept the following payment options:
Absolutely! We love welcoming guests to our kennel Monday through Saturday by appointment. If you are too far away to visit in person, we are happy to send weekly videos, video chat, and show you anything you'd like to see. We are proud of our clean, comfortable set-up!
We do not personally offer transportation for our dogs or puppies. The man of the house is a retired, disabled Army Veteran and that makes travel difficult for us. We do, however, work with an awesome transport company that can safely get Chihuahuas from Double A Designer Dogs anywhere in the US and southern Canada. We are happy to accommodate any out-of-town buyers who would like to fly in, or have a flight nanny fly in, to Harrisburg International Airport. We are also happy to connect you with a flight nanny, if you haven't already found one. USDA travel paperwork, and the puppy exam associated with it are required for any dogs or pups traveling with a professional. Double A Designer dogs charges an additional $100 for this service.
All of our bloodlines have been tested through embark to be free of 29 common genetic diseases. They have all been PERFECT, or we would not be breeding them! We furthermore vow to test any dogs we add to our breeding program in the future. We guarantee the genetic health of our puppies, so testing is the first logical step.
We are happy to make arrangements to keep your puppy for additional time. We obviously want them to get to their new home as early as possible so they can bond wit you, rather than us! But, thanks to our local laws, we can only hold them until 12 weeks of age, without having to pass additional charges along to our buyers. By 12 weeks, they require 2 additional doses of dewormer, a monthly pro-groom, rabies shot, a county license, and a 5-way vaccine booster. Our flat rate to take care of those things is $300. Frankly, it's all stuff that you would have to get done for your puppy at that age, anyway.
Every puppy or dog that leaves our property is CKC registered, microchipped, properly dewormed, up to date on required vaccines, their bloodlines have been tested though Embark to be free of 29 common genetic diseases, they go home with a Swag bag, and they are professionally groomed in our onsite grooming center on pick-up day.
We retire our females when they are 4-5 years old, into loving, forever homes. Occasionally we will retire them earlier if they are no longer a good fit for our program. We do have a waiting list for our retired Moms, and some requests are for specific dog. If you see a girl on our "Meet Our Girls" page that strikes your fancy, just contact us and we will add you to the list <3 Our base price for a retired female is $500 and the above list of additions will be applied to that base price, with the size upcharge at the 4.0 lb mark, rather than 4.0 oz.
As our program evolves, and we refine the quality of the puppies we produce, we will occasionally retire one of our studs. They require a special home, because breeding studs have instincts to mark (lift their leg to urinate), and hump things (or other dogs). Our base price for a retired stud is $300, and the above list of additions will be applied to that base price, with the size upcharge at the 4.0 lb mark, rather than 4.0 oz.
Please contact us if you'd like to be added to our waiting list!
We did extensive research, and discussed it with both of the veterinary offices we utilize, before making the decision to feed our chihuahuas "Purina One Healthy Puppy Formula". Every canine that leaves here, goes home with a Swag Bag that contains a full, labeled canister, to get you started. Even if you don't elect to keep them on our food, please use what we give you, to mix with the new food initially. This will help your chihuahua not to have digestive issues during the switch.
Well, we can only speak for OUR chihuahuas, and the answer is YES! We have designed a weaning pen for our puppies that gives them limited indoor space to sleep & eat, while also giving them ample outdoor space to play & potty. This gives our chihuahuas a start that most breeders don't give them! By 7-8 weeks of age, we rarely find any "accidents". We obviously aren't insinuating that they are fully house trained at 8 weeks old, but they will be used to pottying outdoors, and they will have a good instinct to not potty where they sleep. We clean their area multiple times a day, so it helps reinforce their good instincts! You will also find a "Potty Training Flow Chart" in the information folder that you will get with your Swag Bag!
We firmly believe every dog should get at least one treat or chewie every day. We also give them hard chews such as deer antlers, pig ears, safe beef bones, and duck jerkey. Dreambone sticks, meatball chews, Kongs full of their regular dog food, with safe PB or Kong cheese, are a few other ideas. Just don't ever give your chihuahua(s) anything with rawhide, nylon, or plastic, and REALLY limit the amount of human food they're given, to avoid turning them off their REAL food. They need the balanced nutrition in their regular food to sustain a long, healthy life.
We groom every chihuahua we own, on the first of every month. Our longhaired chis get the hair trimmed around their feet, rear end, and any mats are clipped off. (They rarely get a mat, and if they do, it's small.) Every dog gets their nails trimmed, ears cleaned, shampooed, conditioned, put in a crate with a blow dryer for 1-2 hours to dry, and then they're brushed out.. This is the ONLY time our dogs are EVER in crates! We also body clip our longhaired dogs every Spring, once the weather warms up enough. They spend a lot of time outside, and it helps keep them cool. We highly recommend picking a day of the month and groom, or have your chihuahua groomed, every month! They will stay good about having their nails done, and they won't stink your house up, haha! don't bathe your chihuahua more often than every other week, or it can do more harm than good.
We all know this is a loaded question. No one can predict what a puppy's appetite will be like, as they age. We can provide you with the parents' weights, and in most cases we have full-grown siblings on the property that we can reference. We are happy to send you current weights of your puppy while they are still with us, so you can get an idea what size they will be. The best Puppy Weight Calculator for Chihuahuas that utilize, can be found here: PetNewsDaily.com/puppy-weight-calculator We do not guarantee the mature size of any dog or puppy.
